Bernard K. Freeman 1926 - 2007 Lawrence

Graveside services with military honors for Bernard K. Freeman, 80, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Leavenworth National Cemetery.Mr. Freeman died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at his home. He was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Eudora, the son of Nelson and Elsie Mathia Freeman.Mr. Freeman served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War from 1945 to 1947 and 1951 to 1952. He received a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, Army of Occupational Medal with Japan Clasp and Combat Infantryman Badge.He worked as special agent for Kansas Attorney General Vern Miller in the 1970s. He also worked for the Lawrence Fire Department, built U.S. post offices, including Lawrence's, owned and operated Wilson Glass Co. in Lawrence for many years and owned a small trucking business in Lawrence.He was a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post 852 in Lawrence.Survivors include a son, Rory, Lawrence; a daughter, Susan Freeman, Lawrence; two brothers Ernest, Lawrence, and Marvin, Eudora; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to American Veterans Children's Educational Fund, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
