John Stubbs Brushwood services

Memorial services for John Stubbs Brushwood, 87, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church. Private family inurnment will be at Pioneer Cemetery. Mr. Brushwood died Sunday, May 27, 2007, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.He was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Glenns, Va., the son of John Benson and Evelyn Stubbs Brushwood. He graduated from Randolph-Macon College with a Bachelor of Arts, the University of Virginia with a Master of Arts and Columbia University with a Ph.D.Mr. Brushwood joined the faculty of the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1946, and worked there until 1967. He also was an instructor at Virginia Tech and the Roy A. Roberts professor of Latin American literature at Kansas University from 1967 until he retired in 1990.He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Modern Language Association and American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and a corresponding member of the Mexican Academy of Letters.He married Carolyn Darrach Norton on May 19, 1945, in New York City.
