Funeral services for Helene Marie Heen, 86, Lawrence will be at noon Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Inurnment will be at a later date in Devils Lake, N.D. Mrs. Heen died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community. She lived in Devils Lake until moving to Lawrence in 1997.She was born April 26, 1921, in Grand Forks, N.D., the daughter of Otto and Amelia Lindquist Wagner.Mrs. Heen was a professional figure skater and judged figure skating for the United States Figure Skating Association. She also started the figure skating club in Devils Lake.She was a member of United States Figure Skating Association and Order of the Eastern Star.She married Douglas Heen on July 23, 1938, in Grand Forks, N.D. He died Feb. 2, 2001.Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Baer and husband Bob, Lawrence; two sons, Bruce Heen and wife Sheryl, Birmingham, Ala., and George Heen, San Francisco; and four grandchildren, Douglas, Jennifer, Jessica and Jillian. She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth; her twin sister, Ruth Babcock; and four brothers, Allen Wagner, Ray Baker, Ralph Baker and John Baker.The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. until services Tuesday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Heen.
