Bob Atchley

Funeral services for Bob Atchley, 57, Topeka, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka. He will be cremated.Mr. Atchley died Friday, May 25, 2007, at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., from complications of leukemia.He was born Nov. 18, 1949, in Wichita Falls, Texas, the son of Cleyborn and Ethyl Atchley.Mr. Atchley earned as associate degree in computer science and worked as a computer specialist at the VA medical centers in Topeka and Leavenworth. He had also lived and worked in Lawrence.He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of Christ the King Parish in Topeka and the American Legion in Nortonville.He married Mary Weishaar on April 10, 1992, in Topeka. She survives.Other survivors include two sons, Rob Messinger, Ottawa, and C.J. Atchley, Topeka; a brother, Bill Kowalski and wife Pat, Crystal Falls, Mich.; a brother-in-law, Tom Weishaar, New York, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Betsy Kelly, Lawrence, and Margaret Peterson, Lawrence; and nieces and nephews Molly and Joe Weishaar, Austin, Lauren and Lindsay Kelly, and Tiffany and Bryant Peterson.His was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Bryan.The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home in Topeka, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge or the Palliative Care Unit at the KU Medical Center, sent in care of the funeral home, 2801 S.W.
