Betty Mae Morrey

Memorial services for Betty Mae Morey, 85, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Mrs. Morey died Friday, May 11, 2007, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community. She was born May 5, 1922, in Tabor, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Lucy Courcier Higgins. She graduated from Woodbine (Iowa) High School in 1939, and later graduated from American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. She moved to Lawrence in 2006.Mrs. Morey was a secretary at Iowa State University for seven years. She served previously as a secretary in the medical field. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and Daughters of the American Revolution in Lawrence, and Order of the Eastern Star and the Book & Basket Club in Ames, Iowa. She married Eugene H. Morey on Dec. 28, 1942, in Omaha, Neb. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Steve Morey and wife Rebecca Ryan, of Lawrence; a daughter, Pamela Marks and husband Bill, of Strafford, N.H.; three grandchildren, Christina Winkoop, Kathy Voth and Dolly Mazonowicz; two great-grandchildren, Max and Molly Voth; and two step-grandchildren, Rachael and Joe Treanor.She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Claude Higgins; and a sister, Jean O’Gara.The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at
