Memorial services for Robert M. Rose Sr., 82, Edmond, Okla., will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence and at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Grace Living Center in Edmond, Okla. Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Fort Scott.Mr. Rose died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, in Edmond, Okla., from Parkinson’s disease.He was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Pittsburg, the son of Marion and Olive Rose. He attended Kansas University.Mr. Rose served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner-mate on the USS Kephart DE-207. He was director of the KU Photo Bureau in Lawrence from 1949 to 1955, a photographer for Wolfe’s Camera in Topeka from 1954 to 1955 and a cinema photographer for Centron Corp. in Lawrence from 1955 to 1985.He was an artist, woodcarver and stone carver and was a member of the Kansas Sculptors Association. He designed and created the Bicentennial Bell on display at the Old County Court House and worked closely with the KU art department in the filming and making of the “Moses” on campus. He was nominated for an Academy Award for short subject documentary in 1969 for filming “Leo Beuerman.”Mr. Rose married Mary Ramsey on Aug. 5, 1944, in Denver. She died May 29, 2006.Survivors include a son, Robert M. “Bob” Rose Jr., Washington, Utah; a daughter, Linda Nalley, Edmond, Okla.; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the KU fine arts department at www.kuendowment.org.E-mail condolences may be sent to bobmrose@gmail.com.
