Robert L. “Bob” Walters
Funeral services for Robert L. “Bob” Walters, 69, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church.Mr. Walters died Thursday, March 29, 2007, at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Center.He was born Jan. 22, 1938, in Lawrence, the son of Frank and May Belle Knop Walters. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1956. He received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in geology from Kansas University.Mr. Walters worked for Kansas University for more than 34 years. He was manager of research facilities for the KU Center for Research after he retired. He was owner and president of Ethan A. Smith Moving and Storage for many years and also managed the family farms, Walters Farms LLC, until his death.He served four years on the Lawrence City Commission and was mayor from 1989 to 1990. He was treasurer of the Lawrence Sister Cities Organization and present in Eutin, Germany, and Hiratsuka, Japan, for the official signings between Lawrence’s sister cities.Mr. Walters was a member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Delta Upsilon fraternity, Rotary International, KU Williams Fund, Kansas International and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, where he served on a variety of committees.He married Anne E. Larigan on March 27, 1965, in Prairie Village.
