Dale Franklin Black 1921 - 2007 Lawrence
Funeral services for Dale Franklin Black, 85, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McLouth Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in McLouth Cemetery.Mr. Black died Monday, March 26, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Jefferson County, the son of James "Dee" and Kate Lobb Black. He was raised in McLouth and graduated from McLouth High School.Mr. Black served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a veteran of World War II. He served in five campaigns: Air Offensive Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe Ardennes.He was a principal owner of Lawrence Freight Line and B C & R Storage Co. in Lawrence from 1954 until he retired in 1985. Mr. Black was a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14, Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 595, all in Lawrence.He married June Morrow on Sept. 12, 1942, in Wichita. She died July 14, 1998.He also was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Damien.Survivors include two sons, Larry and wife Melva, Wichita, and Gary and wife Kristin, Lawrence; three brothers, Bob, Greenwood, Ark., Eldon, Dallas, Ore., and Jerry, Neosho, Mo.; three sisters, Wilma Yardley, Topeka, Doris Stanfield, El Dorado, and Shirley Duncan, Valley Center; nine grandchildren, Kate, Matthew, Leanna, Rick, Adam, Grayson, Josh, Allen and Ashley.The family will receive friends from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.warrenmcelwain.com">www.warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Black.
