Joan Marie Boyd Miller, 86, Lawrence, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in Lawrence.She was born April 17, 1921, in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Margaret and Clifford Boyd.She attended North High School in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated from Western High School in Washington, D.C., in 1939. She received an associate degree from George Washington University in 1941 and was a member of Beta Alpha chapter of Phi Mu.Mrs. Boyd worked for the government until 1945, when she went to work in clothing design and retail in New York. She worked as a secretary to the president of Joslins Department Store in Denver.She also lived in Loveland, Colo.; Borger, Texas; Bartlesville, Okla.; Greenville, S.C.; Lexington, Ky.; Houston and, for the last 10 years, Lawrence.She was a member of a Methodist church wherever she lived and volunteered in the churches and communities. She was a seamstress and an avid golfer, duplicate bridge player and couples social dancer.She married Howard W. Miller on Sept. 28, 1950. They were married for more than 50 years. He died Sept. 6, 2005. Survivors include a daughter, Gayleen Miller Hove, Lawrence, and a granddaughter, Clare Marie Hove. The family suggests memorials to one of the Alzheimer's disease research organizations, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
