Jack L. McCabria

Funeral services for Jack L. McCabria, 77, Eudora, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary Eudora Chapel. Burial will be in Eudora Cemetery.Mr. McCabria died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born May 24, 1929, in Eudora, the son of Eugene and Lydia Koehler McCabria. He graduated from Eudora High School in 1947 and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1952 and a master’s degree in 1960, both in mechanical engineering, from Kansas University.Mr. McCabria began his career with Westinghouse Corp. in the Kansas City area in 1953 and later transferred with the corporation to Lima, Ohio, in 1960. He worked as a fellow engineer for research and development. During his 39-year career, he was awarded nine patents for the development of various electrical systems used in many applications, including military and commercial aircraft. He received the George Westinghouse Signature Award for Distinguished Service and retired in 1992, when he returned to the family’s farm south of Eudora.Mr. McCabria was a member of the International Order of the Odd Fellows in Eudora. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge No. 54 in Lima, the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Eudora, the KU Alumni Association, the Eudora Area Historical Society and the Model A Ford Club of America. In 2006, he and his wife received the Douglas County Bankers Soil Conservation award. He was a KU basketball fan and enjoyed playing bridge and attending lodge.He married Maxine Miller on June 8, 1957, in Eudora. She survives of the home.Other survivors include a son, James, Lawrence; two daughters, Lynette Weis and husband Doug, Knoxville, Ill., and Janelle McCabria, of the home; a brother, Robert and wife Cherry, Eudora; and three grandchildren, Bryan, Justin and Jackie Weis.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary’s Eudora Chapel.The family suggests memorials to the St. Paul United Church of Christ or to Cottonwood Inc., sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: McCabria.
