Mary Ellen Cox

Memorial services for Mary Ellan Cox, 88, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence. Burial will be at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery in Houston. Mrs. Cox died Thursday, March 22, 2007, in Lawrence.She was born Jan. 24, 1919, in South Pittsburg, Tenn., the daughter of John Howard and Rebecca Reynolds Metcalf. She graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston and attended Massey Business College there. Mrs. Cox was a longtime associate with Albert Miller Florist in Houston. She was a 66-year member of First United Methodist Church and Postal Supervisor Auxiliary in Houston and a member of the National Association for Retired Federal Employees.She married Roy Cameron “Jack” Cox on June 15, 1940, in Houston. He died March 13, 1992.Mrs. Cox also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Metcalf.Survivors include a daughter, Becky Foster and husband Robert, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Becky Foster Egan, Robert Foster Jr. and Randy Foster; four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ragan, Kieran and Cameron; and several nieces and nephews.The family suggests memorials to the Plymouth Congregational Church Building Fund, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Cox.
