Ervin I. Steele 1925 - 2007 Lawrence
Graveside services for Ervin I. Steele, 81, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Clinton Cemetery.Mr. Steele died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center.He was born April 2, 1925, in Lawrence, the son of E.G. and Amelia Denewiler Steele. He attended Siegel grade school and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1943. Mr. Steele served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during the Korean War. He was a farmer, rancher and polled Hereford breeder. He owned and farmed land now under Clinton Lake. The Steele Museum in Clinton sits on the old Steele place.He was a member of the American Legion and participated in the American Agriculture Movement's Tractorcade to Washington, D.C., in 1977. Survivors include two sons, Scott, Lawrence, and Jim, Randolph; a daughter, MaryLou Steele, Wellborn, Fla.; and five grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a sister, Lela, and a brother, Edwin.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.The family suggests memorials to the Clinton Presbyterian Church, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
