Kenneth Barnett 1924 - 2007 Lawrence
Memorial services for Kenneth Barnett, 82, Lawrence, will be private.Mr. Barnett died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at his home.He was born May 10, 1924, in Mount Victory, Ky., the son of Henry and Hettie Farmer Barnett. He and his family lived in Swansboro, N.C., from 1963 to 1989, when he and his wife moved to Raleigh, N.C. They retired in 2004 in Lawrence.Mr. Barnett served in the U.S. Marine Corps and attained the rank of master sergeant. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He trained in San Diego during World War II and later served in North China, Guam and the Mariannas Islands. He retired from the military in 1970 after 28 years of active duty. He worked for the federal government in base housing at Camp LeJeune, N.C., after he retired from the military.He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, cooking, walking and studying history. He was a bluegrass music fan and played the mandolin and harmonica. He married Barbara L. Howard. They shared 54 years of marriage. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Barbara Ann, Lawrence; and two sons, Charles, Fredericksburg, Va., and John, Mechanicsburg, Pa.He was preceded in death by a son, Frank, in 1984, and by eight brothers and two sisters.The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Kansas, 15329 W. 96th St., Lenexa 66219, the Lawrence Humane Society or Ruth Sheets Adult Day Care Center, 228 W.
