Alice Mershon Leitch

A memorial service for Alice Mershon Leitch, 68, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. A reception will follow at Maceli’s.Ms. Leitch died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, after a 13-month battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 8, 1938, the daughter of Charles and Elva Mershon. She graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1956 and attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo., where she received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She moved to Lawrence in 1986.Ms. Leitch had lived in Garnett, where she volunteered as director of the Little People’s Learning Center at Garnett Methodist Church. She later was director of KinderCare Learning Center in Lawrence for 15 years. She attended many little league baseball games, choir and band concerts, 4-H meetings and rodeos as a mother of three. She also was a breast cancer survivor. She was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Europe. She also enjoyed attending live theater and concerts.She married Dr. David Leitch in 1961. They were married for 24 years.Survivors include three sons, David A., J. Bradley and Michael C. Leitch; her mother, Elva Mershon; a brother, Alvin Mershon and wife Jean; four grandchildren, and her basset hound, Clementine.The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County, 200 Maine, Suite C, Lawrence 66044.
