Mildred L. Hoffman

Memorial services for Mildred L. Hoffman, 88, Lawrence, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Private inurnment is planned.Mrs. Hoffman died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.She was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Ottawa, the daughter of J.W. and Nora Christina Charlton Lane. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1936 and Stewart Beauty Academy. She moved from Ottawa to Lawrence in 1939.Mrs. Hoffman was a beautician in Ottawa and operated her own shop from 1959 until she retired in 1990. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a leader of study circles and treasurer of the adult fellowship Sunday school class. She was a life member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. She served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts and worked with the Girl Scouts. She also volunteered at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, providing hair care and facials and knitting baby caps.She married Ralph Elroy Hoffman on Sept. 17, 1939, in Worden. He died Oct. 25, 1989.Survivors include three sons, Phil Hoffman and wife Marge, Lawrence, Carl Hoffman and wife Elaine, Topeka, and Lee Hoffman and wife Barbara, Houston; a daughter, Linda Grossardt and husband Jim, Minden, Neb.; six grandchildren, Amy Ford, David and Darren Hoffman, Dawn Miti, Jill Werst and Mark Grossardt; and five great-grandchildren, Emma, Bennett and Hudson Ford, Xavier Miti and Eva Grossardt.The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County or First United Methodist Church Handbell Choir, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
