Dorothy Elliott

Funeral services for Dorothy Elliott, 90, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Welda. Burial will follow in Welda Cemetery. Mrs. Elliott died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at Eudora Nursing Center.She was born Sept. 19, 1916, in Pittsburg, the daughter of Tiffin and Rosa Jenkins. She attended Pittsburg public schools and graduated from Pittsburg State University. She received a master’s degree in journalism from Kansas University.Mrs. Elliott taught at various Kansas elementary and high schools. She was elected county superintendent of schools in Dickinson County, where she served four years. She was the director of the Journalism Education Association in 1966 and taught journalism at Haskell Indian Nations University until she retired. She was a member of the Kansas Women’s Press Association and had numerous articles published in Kansas magazine. She was also a member of the Welda First United Methodist Church and the American Association of University Women.She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Elliott, and a son, Glenn Michael Elliott.Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Whalen and husband Patrick, Lawrence, and Jeanne Elliott, Denver; six grandchildren, Mark Snedker, Amy and Jeff Risley, Becky and Kevin Jacobson and Matthew Elliott; and three great-grandsons.The family will receive friends after the services at the Welda Community Building.The family suggests memorials to Welda United Methodist Church, sent in care of Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapels, P.O.
