Betty May Gish 1925 - 2007 Olathe
Memorial services for Betty May Gish, 82, Olathe, were Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe. Mrs. Gish died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Aberdeen Village in Olathe.She was born Jan. 23, 1925, near Nemaha, Neb., the daughter of John and May Argabright.She graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1942 and attended Baker University in Baldwin City, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She received a degree in education from Kansas State University in 1948. She lived in Corvallis, Ore., and had lived in Johnson County since 1953.Mrs. Gish taught in a one-room school in Brown County and worked at Martin Bomber Plant in Omaha, Neb. She later taught second grade in Manhattan and was a substitute teacher in the Shawnee Mission district elementary schools for many years before she retired. She then developed a second career as a sales consultant with two specialty gift shops, Holman's in Fairway and The Smith Co. in Westwood.She was a member of Countryside Christian Church for 35 years, Village Presbyterian Church for 12 years and Stanley Presbyterian Church since 2004. She belonged to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and a was former president of the CF Auxiliary. She was a board member and volunteer for the Johnson County Christmas Bureau.She married Norv Gish on Aug. 10, 1947. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Steve Gish, Lawrence; a daughter, Ginny Wilkins, Wilbraham, Mass.; a brother, Jack Argabright, Orinda, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.She was preceded in death by a son, Tom, in 1984.The family suggests memorials to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 5799 Broadmoor, Suite 504, Mission 66202, or Alzheimer's Association, Heartland Chapter, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village 66208.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.penwellgabel.com">www.penwellgabel.com</a>.
