Pittsburg - Funeral services for Stephen Roy Jones Sr., 68, Pittsburg, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg. Graveside services with military honors by the Fort Riley Funeral Honors Detail Team will follow in Fort Scott National Cemetery.Mr. Jones died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.He was born March 7, 1939, in Lawrence, the son of Arthur and Lydia R. Hillebert Jones. He attended area schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1957. He attended Kansas University for two years. He lived in Pittsburg from 1965 to 1975 and then in Kingman for 22 years. He later moved to Texas, where he lived for five years, and returned to Pittsburg in 2002.Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Navy, Kansas National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve. He served in the military for more than 21 years and was honorably discharged Nov. 5, 1986.He worked as a sheet metal machinist and in modification for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for 24 years and retired in 1995. He then worked as a security officer in Texas for three years. He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid sportsman.Mr. Jones married Mildred I. Toney on July 19, 1963, in Miami, Okla. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include four sons, Donald "Boe" Varin, Pittsburg, Stephen Jr. and wife Nettie, and Arthur and wife Amy, all of Kingman, and William "Bill" and wife Misty A., Hutchinson; a daughter, Renee I. Newman, Fort Scott; a sister, Shirley Woodard, Baldwin City; a brother Richard A., Las Vegas; 17 grandchildren, Misty, Eric and Beau-Michael Varin, Ivy Large, Sara-Beth Edwards, Joseph Tyler Sandeval, and Nathan, Cortney, Joshua, Colton, Cari, Casey, Tabitha, Jesse, Hailey, Dallas and Trystan Jones; and six great-grandchildren, Antonio Varin, Kalub and Kameron Hardin, Nathan-El Reding, and Betty Joe and Kyle Large.He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David L.; and a brother, Donald.Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.The family suggests memorials to the Pittsburg Public Library, sent in care of the funeral home, 522 S.
