Betty L. Harmon Phalen 1916 - 2007 Winchester

Services for Betty L. Harmon Phalen, 90, of Winchester, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial will follow at Buster Cemetery in rural Perry. Mrs. Phalen died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at the Jefferson County Geriatric Center in Winchester.She was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Stafford County, the daughter of Ira and Lona Dillinger Harmon.She graduated from Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. She worked as an executive secretary at Mainline Printing and Santa Fe Hospital, both in Topeka. She was a member of the Jayhawk Club in Perry.She married Leo John Thomas Bell Phalen on Nov. 2, 1945, at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1978.A stepson, James A. Phalen, also died earlier.Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Edmonds, Oskaloosa, and Colleen Phalen, Auburn, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the Oskaloosa Public Library, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
