Marilyn Jean Schendel Markel

Funeral services for Marilyn Jean Schendel Markel, 69, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. today at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville. Burial will follow in Wellsville Cemetery. Mrs. Markel died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at her home. She was born Jan. 1, 1938, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of John Wesley and Bessie Edith Bacon Schendel. She grew up on the farm and attended a one-room school in her very early years. She graduated from Baldwin High School. She moved to Lawrence in 2000.She worked for United Airlines for 45 years, mostly as a flight attendant based out of Denver. She enjoyed her work and was able to visit such places as Africa, Europe, China and Scotland before she retired in 2000.Survivors include a sister, Linda Schendel, Eudora; three aunts, Florence Stithem, Longmont, Colo., Bernice Holden and Nellie Bacon, both of Edgerton; and many cousins.Mrs. Markel was preceded in death by her parents.The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter, in care of the funeral home, P.O.
