Raymond "Ray" Schmidt 1915 - 2007 Lawrence
Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond "Ray" Schmidt, 91, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.Mr. Schmidt died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Hyacinth, the son of George and Pauline Miller Schmidt. He graduated from St. Joseph's Military Academy in Hays. Mr. Schmidt served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. He managed Farmer's Cooperatives for much of his life and was a field representative for Farmland Industries. He later worked as a sales representative for Pur-O-Zone Chemical Co. and A.B. Coker & Son. He was past president of the Parent-Teachers Association in Hays and an honorary chapter farmer of the Future Farmers of America. He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1372 in Lawrence and a former grand knight of the Knights of Columbus in Hays. He was also a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14.Mr. Schmidt married Cora Herrman on Feb. 27, 1946. She died Jan. 10, 1983.Survivors include two sons, Brian W., of the home, and Barron G., Wichita; a daughter, Raemona Lynn Webb and husband Daryl, Lawrence; four grandchildren, Tammy, Michael, John, Emily; and six great-grandchildren.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where a wake and recitation of the rosary will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.The family suggests memorials to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or Lawrence Senior Center, sent in care of the mortuary.
