Michael R. Niehues

A service of remembrance for Michael R. Niehues, 49, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Baldwin City. Burial will follow in Vinland Cemetery.Mr. Niehues died Monday, July 9, 2007, in a vehicle accident in rural Douglas County.He was born March 7, 1958, in Seneca, the son of Edwin F. and Rosalita Rennenger Niehues. He was raised in Goff and graduated from Nemaha Valley High School in 1976. He received a master’s of biblical studies degree from the National Bible College in India. He lived in Seneca and Sabetha before he moved to Baldwin City in 2006.Mr. Niehues and his wife managed The Huddle in Seneca. He later worked at Mid American Dairymen for 17 years and owned and operated a lawn care service with his son. He preached at the Church of Christ in Sabetha and Hiawatha. He worked as a manager for Crosswind Foods in Sabetha from 1996 to 2003. He worked in sales and marketing with Advanced Foods in Lenexa until 2006. He had worked in the sales department for Crosswind Industries in Kansas City since May. He did extensive missionary work in South Africa and India and received a Millennium Memento of Honor award.He married Carol Krotzinger on July 15, 1978. She survives, of the home.Survivors include two sons, Jake, Sabetha, and Brian, Sioux City, Iowa; two daughters, Hannah Dettwyler, Eudora, and Katherine Niehues, Baldwin City; his parents, of Goff; six brothers, Leland and Dennis, both of Goff, Dan Heideman, Wamego, David, Elgin, Ill., Leon, Huntsville, Ark., and Willie, Soldier; a sister, Patty Bolgar, Valley City, Ohio; and four grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.
