Leonard Stephen “Sam” Savner
Visitation services for Leonard Stephen “Sam” Savner, 80, Fountain Hills, Ariz., will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs.Mr. Savner died Monday, July 2, 2007, in Phoenix, Ariz.He was born Jan. 23, 1927, the son Stephen and Mary Sobers Savner, of Wilkes Barre Township, Pa. He moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 1950 and then to Fountain Hills in 1984.Mr. Savner worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass in Kansas City, Kan., for 35 years and retired in 1984. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed serving as a tour guide to his many family members that came to visit.He married Mary Violet Spencer in 1960. They had five children together. They divorced. He married Mary O’Brien. They shared 22 years together. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Stephen, Farmington, Mo., three daughters, Cathy Gilges, Baldwin City, Patti Pyne, La Luz, N.M., and Elizabeth Lee, Potter; four stepchildren; three brothers, Richard, Jerry and Robert, all of Kansas City, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.Mr. Savner was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sandra Kaye Savner; and a sister, Mildred Zonko.The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
