Robert E. "Bob" Mears 1925 - 2007 Lawrence
Memorial visitation for Robert E. "Bob" Mears, 81, Lawrence, will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.Mr. Mears died Friday, July 6, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Leavenworth, the son of Eugene W. and Marie Brown Mears. He was raised in Oak Park, Ill., then attended Seaman Rural High School in Topeka and earned a business administration degree from Washburn University. Mr. Mears served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gyro compass specialist in the South Pacific. He was a supervising senior internal auditor for Montgomery Ward for almost 30 years and retired in 1984. He was a member of Orient Masonic Lodge, Topeka York Rite Bodies, and Arab and Abdallah Shrine Temples.He married Harriet Mellenbruch on June 1, 1949, in Hiawatha. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Kathleen "Kathy" Mears and Janet Mears, both of Lawrence; and a son, David, of Lawrence.Another son, Thomas E., died in July 2002.The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.warrenmcelwain.com">www.warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Mears.
