Kenneth Alec McKenzie

Services for Kenneth Alec McKenzie, 68, Oskaloosa, formerly of Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lecompton United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Hardy Oak Cemetery, McLouth.Mr. McKenzie died Saturday, July 7, 2007, in Topeka.He was born Nov. 2, 1938, in Springer, N.M., the son of Rance Alec and Virginia Annas McKenzie. He graduated from Tatum High School, Tatum, N.M., in 1957. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1958 and served as a yeoman third class. Mr. McKenzie served as a patrolman with the Lawrence Police Department for 27 years and retired in 1995. He was most recently employed as a security officer for the Johnson County Library.Mr. McKenzie was a foster parent for seven years and a member of the Methodist Church and of the Fraternal Order of Police.He married Janice Gail Tarpley on July 29, 1958, in Richmond, Calif. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Melody McKenzie, of Lawrence, and Robbie Fisher, of Osawatomie; two sons, Shawn McKenzie, of Springfield, Ill., and Mark Bartling, of Raymore, Mo.; two brothers, Billy J., Lawrence, and Jim Rob, Raymore, Mo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Lawrence Funeral Chapel.The family suggests memorials to the Jefferson County Humane Society, sent in care of the Lawrence Funeral Chapel.
