Gary A. Slater

Memorial services for Gary A. Slater, 66, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Big Springs United Methodist Church. Private family inurnment will follow in Big Springs Cemetery.Mr. Slater died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at his home. He was born Sept. 30, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Lester R. and Ethel S. Akers Slater. He was raised in Kansas City, Kan., and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1958. He moved to Topeka in 1966.Mr. Slater served in the U.S. Coast Guard and received an honorable discharge in 1966. He worked at Victor Comptometer Corp. for three years. He became and assistant service manager for Victor in 1966 and retired in 1977. He owned and operated Slater Business Machines for 10 years. He then opened Central Business Products, T-Shirts and Awards in 1987 and retired in June 2007. He was a member of Mason Lecompton Lodge 420 A.F.&A.M.He married Naomi Bushnell in 1960. They divorced. He married Marcia Robuck on Oct. 1, 1966. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a son, Raymond, Topeka; two daughters, Tracy Slater Wendt and Tammy Slater Rice, both of Topeka; and 11 grandchildren.Mr. Slater was preceded in death by a grandson.The family suggests memorials to Heartland Hospice, 1033 S.W.
