James Lee “Jim” Hughes

Services for James Lee “Jim” Hughes, 52, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial will be in Stanton Cemetery.Mr. Hughes died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at his home.He was born April 7, 1954, in Butler, Mo., the son of Donald Lee and Alline Eva Kern Hughes. He lived in Pomona from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s before he returned to Lawrence, where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1972. He attended Kansas University and continued his education in Spain, and received a degree in electronics.Mr. Hughes taught electronics in California in the early 1980s. He was a computer technician for Hubbard Electronics in Topeka from the late 1980s to mid-1990s. He then operated Mid-America R.V. & Boat Storage in Vasser. He attended North Baptist Church in Ottawa.Survivors include his mother, Alline Eva Kern Hughes Massey, Lawrence; a stepsister, Carolyn Massey, Minnesota; two aunts, Helen M. Vail, Neodesha, and Della M. Johnson, Boonville, Mo.; and a cousin, Charlotte Adams, Osawatomie.He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Hughes.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the mortuary before the services.The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S.
