William Merritt "Bill" Reekie 1923 - 2007 Osawatomie

Osawatomie - Memorial services will be later for William Merritt "Bill" Reekie, 83, Osawatomie.Mr. Reekie died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at Life Care Center in Osawatomie. He was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Wright, the son of William J. and Lizzie Camp Reekie. He attended Pomona High School.Mr. Reekie served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.He worked for Jewel T. Co., Firestone in Ottawa and Santa Fe Railroad in Ottawa and Kansas City. He owned and operated a rural milk route for Bennett's Creamery in Ottawa that covered Coffey, Anderson and Franklin counties. He later worked at Weidman Tire and Appliance Store in Ottawa and Clemens and Green in Paola. Mr. Reekie volunteered for the Laborers for Christ organization and built churches throughout the United States. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Block and the American Legion in Paola. He was a past member of the Lions Club and American Legion in Williamsburg.He married Martha Joy Lantz on April 5, 1942. They divorced in 1979. He married Evelyn Prothe Minden on March 7, 1980. She died in January 1990. He married Althea Mueller on March 8, 1991. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Chris, Williamsburg; two daughters, Penny McClure, Lawrence, and Lea Shepard, Independence, Kan.; five stepsons, James Mueller, Wamego, Joe Mueller, Topeka, Phil Minden, Paola, Merle Minden, Missouri, and Neil Minden, Colorado; four stepdaughters, Jane Chilcoat, St. Joseph, Mo., Judy Parks, Cheyenne, Wyo., Jill Newland, Manhattan, and Lila Karigan, Paola; two sisters, Fern Olsen, Richmond, and Carol Richardson, Garnett; five grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and 18 stepgreat-grandchildren.Cremation is under the direction of Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. The family suggests memorials to Laborers for Christ, sent in care of the funeral home, 203 Main St., Osawatomie 66064.
