Mary May Racy

Services for Mary May Racy, 94, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.Mrs. Racy died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community, where she had lived since 1994. She was born April 6, 1912, in Minden Mines, Mo., the daughter of Edward and Emma Beadles Brynds. She moved with her family to Lawrence in 1955 from West Mineral.Mrs. Racy was employed by the Lawrence school district as a food service worker at Central Junior High School for 25 years.She was a member of First United Methodist Church in West Mineral. She also was a member of KPERS and Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included cooking, canning, sewing, knitting and crocheting.She married John W. Racy Sr. on March 8, 1935, in Girard. He died Feb. 4, 1979.Two brothers and a sister also died earlier.Survivors include four sons, John and his wife, Larysa, Donald and his wife, Ann, and Bill and his wife, Pat, all of Lawrence, and Mel and his wife, Toastie, Abilene; eight grandchildren, Vanya, Tony, Sophia, Geoffrey, Mike, Kip, RaeLynn, Kelly and Kim; and 13 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
