Robert E. Woodhead 1934 - 2007 Baldwin City
A memorial service with military honors for Robert E. Woodhead, 72, Baldwin City, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. Inurnment will be at a later date.Mr. Woodhead died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Topeka, the son of Eugene M. and Olive L. Barker. He grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1951. He attended Kansas University.Mr. Woodhead served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1976. He was a flight navigator on the KC-135, which refueled other aircraft, and he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired as a major after 21 years. He continued to work as owner of Woodhead Real Estate in Baldwin City for many years. He also managed the Baldwin Retirement Complex for many years.Mr. Woodhead was a member of First United Methodist Church, a past president of the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Baldwin Rotary and was a past commander of Lloyd Beaton American Legion Post 228.He enjoyed golfing with his friends and traveling all over the country with his wife. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.Mr. Woodhead married Wanda Clack on Jan. 18, 1958, in El Paso, Texas. They shared more than 48 years of marriage. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Rick and wife Carolyn, Lawrence; a daughter, Gay Lynn Gremmel and husband Alan, Benton; two brothers, Ray, Shawnee, and Randy, Dallas; a sister, Mary Finney, Dallas; five grandchildren, Rob, Amy, Cyndi, Helen and Ryan; and a great-granddaughter, Lushia.He was preceded in death by his parents.The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O.
