Jimmy E. "Jim" Surritt 1941 - 2007 Meriden
Funeral services for Jimmy E. "Jim" Surritt, 65, Meriden, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church, Topeka. Burial will be in Meriden Cemetery.Mr. Surritt died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at his home after a long illness.He was born July 30, 1941, in Silver Lake, the son of Jesse Frank and Minnie Rosalie Pierson Surritt. He attended public schools in Willard and Silver Lake. He moved from Topeka to Meriden in 1961.Mr. Surritt was a machinist, and he owned and operated the Meriden Machine Shop for 30 years until he retired in 2003. He formerly worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and Harry Turner Advertising Co., both in Topeka.He married Carol L. McCarty on June 5, 1959, in Topeka. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include his mother, Minnie R. Surritt, Silver Lake; a son, Andy and wife Alexa, Meriden; two daughters, Kelly Ann Kampsen and husband John, Meriden, and Linda Smith and husband Kenney, Lecompton; a brother, Richard F. and wife Hermina, Daphne, Ala., 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.Two grandsons, Dustin Surritt and Theodore "Teddy" McCollum, died earlier.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Meriden Chapel. The family suggests memorials to Jefferson County Hospice, sent in care of the funeral chapel, P.O. Box 331, Meriden 66512.
