H. Harlan Livingood 1924 - 2007 Lawrence
A service to celebrate the life of H. Harlan Livingood, 82, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Plymouth Congregational Church. Private burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery will precede the service. Mr. Livingood died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Sept. 24, 1924, the son of Harry H. and Ethel Hanger Livingood. He attended Shawnee Mission High School and received a Bachelor of Science in business from Kansas University.Mr. Livingood served in the U.S. Army in the 102nd Infantry Division during World War II. He worked as a general manager of Builders Sand Co. in Kansas City, Kan., for 35 years and was known as the Sandman. He moved to Eudora after he retired and then to Lawrence in 2004.He was a member of the Breakfast at 8 Business Men's Club and a founding member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir for 18 years. He also was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church.Mr. Livingood played the trombone and formed the Harlan Livingood Orchestra during college. He played for the Jazzhaus Big Band, Horizons Senior Band and Lawrence City Band during his retirement.He married Marilyn Rosenau on June 15, 1947, at Danforth Chapel in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include three daughters, Christy McCoy, McMinnville, Ore., Stephanie Wind, LaGrange, Ill., and Amy Rogers, Stilwell; a son, David Livingood, Lawrence; a sister, Ina Claire Clarke, Marshfield, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.
