Lorelyn "Lori" K. Smilie 1952 - 2007 Ottawa

Memorial services for Lorelyn "Lori" K. Smilie, 54, Ottawa, will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wellsville High School in the Kermit Deterding Gymnasium. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.Ms. Smilie died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa.She was born June 5, 1952, in Denver, the daughter of Charles R. and Mary Currier Smilie. She attended public schools in Colorado Springs, Colo., and graduated in 1970 from Arapaho High School in Centennial, Colo. She graduated from Ottawa University in 1974 with a degree in elementary education.Ms. Smilie began her teaching career in the fall of 1974 at Wellsville Elementary School, where she taught third grade for more than 32 years. She enjoyed music, movies, books, literature and art. She also enjoyed spending time with her cats, many friends, students, co-workers and family.She was a member of the National Education Association, Kansas National Education Association, Wellsville Educators Association, and was involved in the development of the Franklin County Literature Festival.Survivors include three brothers, David K. Smilie, San Carlos, Calif., Kenneth B. Smilie and wife Zina, Collbran, Colo., and Michael S. Smilie, Fort Collins, Colo.; an aunt and uncle, Charles and Katherine Currier, Grand Junction, Colo.; an uncle, William J. Smilie, Fort Collins, Colo.; and an aunt, Kay Smilie, Loveland, Colo.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Ms. Smilie was preceded in death by her parents.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa.The family suggests memorials to Wellsville Elementary School, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
