Ottawa - Funeral services for Robert P. Howell, 81, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.Mr. Howell died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Ottawa Retirement Village.He was born April 12, 1925, in East Stroudsburg, Pa., the son of John R. and Ethel Mary Williams Howell. He grew up in Brodheadsville, Pa., and graduated in 1942 from Chestnut Hill High School in Brodheadsville. He moved to Ottawa in 1946.Mr. Howell served in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 7, 1942, until he was honorably discharged April 16, 1946. He served during World War II as a motor machinist's mate first class and received the World War II Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Philippine Liberation Campaign Medal.He worked for many years as a bookkeeper and in sales at Joel Cutting Wholesale in Ottawa. He also worked as an accountant for the John Deere and Ford dealerships in Ottawa. He later worked at Price's Appliance Store as a sales representative and retired in 1990.Mr. Howell was a member of First Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ottawa Post No. 5901, American Legion Warren C. Black Post No. 60, and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 803, all in Ottawa. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, studying history and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.He married Myra M. Sutherland on Sept. 23, 1944, in Las Vegas. They shared more than 62 years of marriage. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Daniel W. Howell and wife Susan, East Providence, R.I.; two daughters, Paula L. Moore and husband Jerry, Baldwin City, and Marsha E. Howell and husband Bob, Hominy, Okla.; three brothers, William Howell and wife Jackie, Franklin, N.J., Forrest Howell, Sarasota, Fla., and Kenneth Howell and wife Nancy, Dayton, Ohio; four sisters, Doris Wollstein and husband John, Honolulu, Joan Wells, Pocono, Pa., Jane Corley and husband Bob, Denville, N.J., and Ruth Cook and husband John, Franconia, N.H.; a sister-in-law, Vera Surface, Overland Park; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.Mr. Howell was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John R. Howell Jr.; two sisters, Esther Howell and Mary Jean Klosterhoff; and a grandson, Robert L.
