Duane Lee Hayes

Funeral services for Duane Lee Hayes, 79, Independence, Mo., will be at noon Saturday at First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora. Burial will follow at Eudora City Cemetery.Mr. Hayes died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Eudora Nursing Center.He was born March 28, 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Clarence W. and Jessie L. Coffman Hayes.Mr. Hayes worked at the General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant for 40 years. He was a member of the Westmoreland Glass Club. He was active in Boy Scouts of America Troop 363 in Independence and the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.He married Anna Luella Long on Dec. 30, 1956, in Eudora. She preceded him in death.Survivors include a son, David and wife Linda, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Barbara Rowe and husband Daniel, Estero, Fla., and Mary Ellen Boyd and husband Phillip, Ashburn, Va.; four grandsons, Joshua and Andrew Boyd, and Jonathan and Stephen Hayes; a mother-in-law, Fern Long, Eudora; a sister-in-law, Mary Beem, Eudora; a brother, John Long and wife Becky, San Antonio; and many other friends and relatives.The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until services Saturday at the church.The family suggests memorials to Boy Scouts of America’s Heart of America Council “Lone Bear Fund,” 10210 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131, or Heart of America Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St., Suite 20, Topeka 66614.Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
