Baldwin City – Funeral services for C. Joe Martin, 82, Baldwin City, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. Burial will follow in Sutton Cemetery near Baldwin City.Mr. Martin died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa.He was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Blakesburg, Iowa, the son of Joe and Bertha Kincaid Martin. He attended Fairview Elementary School in Lovilia, Iowa, and graduated from Moravia High School in 1940.Mr. Martin worked on the family farm in Lovilia, and later worked as an insurance sales representative and construction worker. He was also a carrier with ASAP Land Express and retired in 1992. He was a Conklin dealer for the past 12 years.He was a member of the American Miniature Horse Association, American Miniature Horse Registry and the Eagles Aerie 3890 of Osage City. He broke and rode horses his entire life. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Puggy, and 19-year-old cat, Tommy. He married Shirley Hannam in 1946. They divorced. He married Jeroldene A. Hobson Waldo on Jan. 16, 1999, at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. They shared more than eight years of marriage. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Terry J. and wife Sherry, Tacoma, Wash., and Bradley, Ankeny, Iowa; two daughters, Judy Deveroux and husband Tom, Elkhorn, Neb., and Sandra Babbitt and husband David, Des Moines, Wash.; two stepsons, Robert M. Waldo and wife Eva, De Soto, and Kevin W. Waldo and wife Fran, Independence, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Janet Nalley and husband Sean, De Soto, and Georgene DeMiyt, Baldwin City; three sisters, Eloise Holland, Woodridge, Ill., Bonita Sonnenburg, Indianola, Iowa, and Lorene Walker, Marshalltown, Iowa; four brothers, Jerry, Las Animas, Colo., Bobby, Ottumwa, Iowa, Gary, Phoenix, and Richard, Newton, Iowa; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home.The family suggests memorials to Ives Chapel United Methodist Church or Sutton Cemetery, sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O.
