Darrell E. Stringer

Funeral services for Darrell E. Stringer, 83, rural Parsons, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.Mr. Stringer died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.He was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Parsons, the son of Wallace and Velma Pond Stringer. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1941. Mr. Stringer served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 as a deep sea diver in the Salvage Repair Unit. He worked for MKT Railroad before and after his military service for 42 years and retired in 1983.He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, where he served as deacon for 15 years, the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees and Veterans of Foreign Wars Brown-Bishop Post 704. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.Mr. Stringer married Beva C. Waller on June 17, 1948, in Bentonville, Ark. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Dwight E. and Jeff L., both of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Lynn M. Searles and husband Martin, Meriden, and Janis E. Stewart and husband Steve, Lawrence; a brother, Darrice L. and wife Glenda, The Villages, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter, Amara Grace Stringer.The family suggests memorials to First Assembly of God Church, sent in care of the funeral home, 405 Main, Parsons 67357.
