Edith May Schumann

Hiawatha – A celebration of life for Edith May Schumann, 97, Emporia, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church of Hiawatha. Mrs. Schumann died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at an Emporia nursing home.She was born March 21, 1909, southwest of Hiawatha, the daughter of Samuel and Ellen Pfister Feller.Mrs. Schumann and her husband farmed and raised livestock northeast of Powhattan for many years.She married George Henry Schumann on April 16, 1933, in Marysville. He died March 18, 1974. Survivors include a son, Gerald Schumann and wife Orinne, Emporia; two daughters, Suzanne Anderson, Lawrence, and Nanci Oswald and husband Gary, rural Hiawatha; a daughter-in-law, Annette Larson and husband Stan, Lawrence; 13 grandchildren, including Bryce Schumann; 24 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.Friends may call after 10 a.m. Today at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Today.The family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Hour, sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S. 7th St., Hiawatha 66434.Online condolences may be sent at www.chapeloaksfuneralhome.com.
