Manhattan – Funeral services for Samuel T. Petty, 82, Manhattan, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan with the Rev. Moon-Hee Chung officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunrise Cemetery.Mr. Petty died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.He was born June 28, 1925, in Rolla, Mo., the son of Harvey and Maryann Ferrel Petty. He was a former resident of Lawrence and a Manhattan resident since 1962.Mr. Petty served in the U.S. Army for 22 years and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired at the rank of staff sergeant. He worked on a ranch in Wyoming before joining the military and as a handyman and carpenter afterward. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1786 in Manhattan.He married Anna B. Hockaday on June 29, 1957, in Shelbyville, Mo. She died Feb. 1, 2007. Mr. Petty was also preceded in death by a stepson, James Wood; and a half-brother, Joe Norris.Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Jensen, Manhattan; a half-sister, Alberta Prater, St. Louis; five grandchildren, James Roger McKenzie, Lorie Ann Miller, Angela Perez, Paula Davis and Mary Greco; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild, and another expected in March.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the Terry C.
