Mary A. Moffitt 1919 - 2007 Topeka

Memorial services for Mary A. Moffitt, 88, Topeka, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Crestview United Methodist Church in Topeka. A second service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Inurnment will be at a later date in Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa.Mrs. Moffitt died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at Lexington Park Care Center in Topeka.She was born Aug. 30, 1919, in Topeka, the daughter of Leslie M. Waggoner and Cecil Stuart Waggoner. She was raised in Oskaloosa and graduated from Oskaloosa High School. She also attended Kansas University. She moved to Topeka in 1992.Mrs. Moffitt worked as a case worker and later as director of the Jefferson County Department of Social Welfare in Oskaloosa. She then became a secretary to William C. Leech and Gary L. Nafziger, Attorneys, and was also employed by Finley Abstract Co., both in Oskaloosa. She was an active member of Crestview United Methodist Church and a member of Oskaloosa Chapter 62 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a charter and life member of the Jefferson County Historical Society. She was an active volunteer, most recently at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka and the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library.She married to Lawrence N. "Lonnie" Moffitt in 1958. He died Jan. 30, 2001.Survivors include a brother, Gene S. Waggoner, Edwardsville; a daughter, Sally Myers, Topeka; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.The family suggests memorials to the Topeka Rescue Mission Inc., sent in care of the funeral home, P.0.
