Edith Mae Flory Beatty

Baldwin City – Memorial services for Edith Mae Flory Beatty, 99, Baldwin City, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at New Life Assembly of God Church in Baldwin City. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Mrs. Beatty died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Baldwin Heathcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 25, 1908, in Argonia, the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Kock Flory. She grew up in Argonia and graduated from Argonia High School.Mrs. Beatty worked as a cook at Kansas University for seven years and then at Vinland Grade School for six years. She also volunteered at Baldwin Care Center for many years. She was a member of Vinland United Methodist Church, where she belonged to United Methodist Women for many years, and a member New Life Assembly of God Church for the past 15 years. She was also a member of E.H.U.Mrs. Beatty enjoyed writing poetry and was a published poet. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking and baking for the Maple Leaf Festival, 4-H bake sales and various church functions.She married Elmer Otis Beatty on July 16, 1936, in Ottawa. They shared more than 33 years of marriage. He died Feb. 18, 1969.Survivors include two sons, Marvin L. Cornelius and wife Shirley, Baldwin City, and Jack O. Beatty and wife Diane, Rock Springs, Wyo.; a daughter, Mary Margaret Kilburn, Wellsville; a sister, Virginia Wempen, Wichita; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.The family suggests memorials to New Life Assembly of God Church Teen Challenge Program, sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral, P.O.
