James L. "Jim" Burnett 1928 - 2007 Lawrence
Services for James L. "Jim" Burnett, 79, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church. A private family burial will precede the memorial service at Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Burnett died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.He was born March 16, 1928, in Wellsville, the son of Frank and Helen Irene Burnett.Mr. Burnett served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for many years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He retired March 16, 1983.He was a member of the First Christian Church and Acacia Lodge No. 9, A.F. and A.M., Chapter, Council, Commandery of Lawrence York Rite, White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Lawrence National Association of Letter Carriers Branch No. 104.He married Peggy L. Wilson on Sept. 22, 1948, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Nancy E. Morgan of Florissant, Mo., and Patricia A. Bevis of Bendena; one son, Wiley, Lawrence; two brothers, Donald, Deer Trail, Colo., and Gene, Lawrence; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Visitation hours will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Christian Church in Lawrence and they may be sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent to <a href="http://www.warrenmcelwain.com">www.warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Burnett.
