Dorothy O. Thomas 1915 - 2007 McPherson
Memorial services for Dorothy O. Thomas, 92, McPherson, will be at 1 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in McPherson. Inurnment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.Mrs. Thomas died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at Loving Care of McPherson.She was born May 18, 1915, in Grant City, Mo., the daughter of Logan Tracy and Harriett Elizabeth Roundy Tracy Miller. She graduated from Atchison High School. She attended Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison and graduated from Emporia State Teachers College. She had lived in Lawrence before moving to McPherson in 1994.Mrs. Thomas taught English at Bushong High School in Bushong. She was an Army wife and a homemaker. She was a member of P.E.O. for more than 50 years and a member of local Chapter AY in McPherson. She participated in Kansas Author Club and volunteered tutoring English in Lawrence and for the MARC program in McPherson. She served as president of the Officer's Wives Club at many ports, including Fort Riley. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in McPherson, where she served as deacon, taught Sunday school and served in other capacities. She married Richard Carl Thomas on Aug. 17, 1940, in Atchison. He died Feb. 19, 1989.Survivors include two sons, Michael T. Thomas, Washington, D.C., and Gregory M. Thomas, McPherson; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the McPherson Health Care Foundation, sent in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid St., McPherson 67460.
