Russell "Bud" L. Palmer 1932 - 2007 Topeka
Funeral services for Russell L. "Bud" Palmer, 74, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Crestview United Methodist Church in Topeka. Burial will be in Grantville Cemetery.Mr. Palmer died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, in Topeka. He was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Topeka, the son of Russell F. and Leona L. Haverkamp Palmer. He lived in the Grantville area most of his early life. He graduated from Perry High School in 1950.Mr. Palmer served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He worked for Santa Fe Offices from 1950 to 1955. He then worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 39 years and retired in 1994. He was Division B chairman for the Rubber Workers Union for many years.He was a member of American Legion Post 400 in Topeka and the Eagles Lodge in Holton. He was an avid golfer. He enjoyed bowling at Gage Center, car racing, especially NASCAR Nextel, hunting with his dad and friends and spending time with his grandchildren. He married Donna LeGer in 1952. They divorced. He married Gail Gay in 1992 in Las Vegas. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a daughter Pam Besser and husband David, Topeka; two sisters, Shirley Seel, Hot Springs, Ark., and Connie Fagerberg and husband Linn, Olsburg; a stepdaughter, Sandra Vanatta, Lecompton; a stepson, Brian Gay and wife Lisa, Lawrence; a brother-in-law, James Burks and wife Ann, Moulton, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Luke, Dillon, Shannon, Cynthia, Sarah, Zach, Parker and Talia; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel in Topeka, where the family will receive them from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or an organization of the donor's choice.
