Topeka – Funeral services for June Horwitz, 84, Kansas City, Mo., will be at noon today at Temple Beth Sholom in Topeka. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.Mrs. Horwitz died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, in Kansas City, Mo., from cancer.She was born June 26, 1923, in New York City, the daughter of Harry and Norma Isaacs. She graduated from Newton High School in 1941. She received a Bachelor of Arts in corrections from Washburn University in 1978 and a master’s in social work from Kansas University in 1980.Mrs. Horwitz was a professional ballet dancer and taught ballet from 1955 to 1967. She was also a ballet choreographer at the Topeka Civic Theater and other community groups. She was a social worker at the Youth Center in Topeka from 1980 to 1993. She was a member of the Kansas Civil Rights Commission and the League of Women Voters, and was named Volunteer of the Year for the Kansas Corrections Commission in 1995.She married Leonard Horwitz in 1944 in New York. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Lynne Green, Lawrence, and Marjorie Murray and husband Ragen, Topeka; a son, Robert Horwitz, New York; two sisters, Bette Smith and husband Larry, Montauk Point, N.Y., and Carole Goldstone and husband Gill, Laguna Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren, Adam Green and Laura and Sands Murray-Wassink; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jaycee Mountain.The family suggests memorials to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114, or Van Go Mobile Arts, P.O.
