Kenneth L. Cole

Services for Kenneth L. Cole, 78, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka. Burial with military honors will be at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka.Mr. Cole died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born May 23, 1929, in Topeka, the son of Arthur and Zella Clark Cole. He attended Rock Creek grade school and graduated from Seaman Rural High School in 1947. He moved to Topeka in 1945 and to Hoyt in 1957 before he moved back to Topeka in 1983. He moved to Lawrence in 2000.Mr. Cole served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War era. He was a city councilman in Hoyt for eight years and served as Soldier Township clerk for two years. He was a sales manager for John Deere for more than 42 years and retired in 1992. He attended Hoyt Baptist Church and was a member of Northland Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and usher, for more than 25 years. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for more than 30 years and volunteered with the Kansas State Historical Society for eight years.He married Doris M. Thompson on Aug. 31, 1950, at First United Methodist Church in Topeka. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include three sons, Terry L. and wife Debra, Lenexa, Mark D. and wife Rosemary, Duvall, Wash., and Tod E., Lawrence; and two grandchildren, Eric Cole and Tara Jennison.Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Northland Christian Church, sent in care of the funeral home, 1035 N.
