Richard Alan Funk

Lenexa – Memorial services for Richard Alan Funk, 52, Paola, will be at 8 p.m. today at Westside Family Church in Lenexa.Mr. Funk died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at his farm.He was born Nov. 30, 1954, in Goessel, the son of LaVern and Maxine Loewen Funk. He grew up on a farm near Peabody and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1973. He also attended DeVry trade school in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Funk owned and operated Dr. Vinyl, a car service and repair company based out of Topeka and Lawrence, for 31 years.He and his wife attended Forerunner Christian Fellowship in Grandview, Mo., and enjoyed western dancing, hunting, fishing, riding horses and farming. He enjoyed working with his hands and spending time with his family and friends. He married Dorothy Samuel on Aug. 23, 1975, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives, of the home. Survivors include three sons, Jesse, Jason and wife Heather, and Joshua; a daughter, Emily Funk; two sisters, Janet Mitzner and husband Ron, and Mary Leal and husband Eric; a brother, Russ; his father and stepmother, LaVern and Joyce Funk; and three grandchildren, Brooklyn, Emry and Liam Funk.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until services today at the church.
