Jean Laverne Rolfs

Funeral services for Jean Laverne Rolfs, 81, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Plymouth Congregational Church. Burial will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Lyons Cemetery in Lyons. Mrs. Rolfs died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital of esophageal cancer.She was born April 14, 1926, in Lyons, the daughter of Frank and Hazel Smith Donnelly.Mrs. Rolfs was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and Kiwanis. She was a homemaker and volunteered for the Red Cross, Lyons Community Hospital and Lyons Elementary School. She was a member of the Lyons Parks and Recreation Board. She taught Sunday school at various churches in western Kansas and was a juvenile care attendant.She married Ned O. Rolfs on Jan. 22, 1944, in Great Bend. He died Oct. 31, 1994.She also was preceded in death by an infant sister.Survivors include six daughters, Beverly Rolfs, Bloomington, Ind., Marsha Williams and husband Jerry, Savannah, Mo., Judith Arnold, Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Nedra Rogers, Billie David and Elaine Rolfs and fiance Dan Carley, all of Lawrence; two sons, James and wife Margaret, Shreveport, La., and Shawn; two sisters, Faye Murray and husband Jim, Lafayette, Ind., and Wanda Waggoner and husband Glenn, McPherson; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
