Rose M. “Pat” Grom

Memorial services for Rose M. “Pat” Grom, 79, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Queen of Peace Church in North Chicago, Ill.Mrs. Grom died Sunday, April 23, 2007, at Midland Hospice in Topeka. She was born Oct. 23, 1927, in Waukegan, Ill., the daughter of Henry and Pearl Karpen McManaman.Mrs. Grom was a homemaker. She worked at 10th Street Hardware and North Shore Catering, both in Waukegan. She enjoyed being a homemaker, mother and grandmother.She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence and K.S.K.J. St. Mary’s No. 79. She married Philip “Flute” John Grom Sr. on Aug. 19, 1950, in Waukegan. He preceded her in death.Mrs. Grom also was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Timothy Grom. Survivors include four sons, Philip J. “Junior” Grom Jr. and wife Rebecca, Lawrence, Edward Grom and wife Karen, Naperville, Ill., James Grom and wife Debra, Kenosha, Wis., and Andrew Grom and wife Wendy, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; two daughters, Patricia Pitts and husband David, Kenosha, and Margaret Alexonis and husband Marty, Winthrop Harbor; a brother; Richard McManaman, Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Mary Jean Niemi, Grayslake, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.The family suggests memorials to the church or Midland Hospice of Topeka, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
