Topeka – A memorial service for A. Raymond “Ray” Christian, 94, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka. Private inurnment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.Mr. Christian died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Brewster Place.He was born June 12, 1912, in Camp Verde, Ariz. He attended elementary school through high school in Kansas City, Kan. He moved to Topeka in 1942. He had lived in Lawrence for 10 years before moving back to Topeka in December.Mr. Christian worked at Helzberg Jewelers in Kansas City, Mo. After moving to Topeka he managed Santa Fe Watch Co. and opened Ray Christian Jewelers in 1950. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He married Alice Berquist in June 1933. She preceded him in death. He later married Lorene Winter, who also died earlier.Survivors include his wife, Bea, of the home; two sons, Raymond Jr. and wife Marilyn K., Twin Lake, Mich., and Gary, Topeka; a daughter, Ruthanne Koger and husband Kenneth, Horton; two stepsons, Greg Durston and wife Marti, Dallas, and Gary Durston and wife Paula, Gold Canyon, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
